Posted by msaet02 on Monday, May 9, 2016.

The time has finally come for me to graduate college. I am so excited, and I am thrilled to officially begin my design career. After being in and out of college, trying to decide what to major in, and moving states, I have finally completed my Associates Degree in Interior Design! Woot! Woot!

As I journey on the next road of my life, I have set up a website where I will be posting pictures of my design projects. Check back often for new projects and updates.

Sherri's Website

Some current projects and ideas that I'm working on:

This is a piece of art I've purchased to go over my fireplace. My husband and I are selling our current home, and I wanted a statement piece to wow potential buyers.

This piece came from Uttermost. It is called Muted Silhouette and it is a 40x40 canvas.

These are two contemporary accessories I've purchased because I just think they are adorable! They both came from Cyan Design and there is a large and small version of both the deer and bunny.

The small deer is called Sm Dearly Loved Sclptr. He is 6.75" W x 11.75" H.

The large deer is called Lg Dearly Loved Sclptr. He is 7.5" W x 14.25" H.

Both are made of raw nickel.

Aren't they cute!!

The small bunny is called Sm Thumper Dome Sculptr. He is 4.25" W x 9.75" H. The large bunny is called Lg Thumper Dome Sculptr. He is 6" W x 13.25" H. Both are made of raw nickel.

So Adorable!!

I love being in the design business. Not only is it fun, creative, and exciting to design for other people, it's also fun to design your own home. I'm so excited to be a part of this wonderful career field!! :)

For Rocky Springs Med Spa, the design invites the mountain environment in. Lots of textures and tiles were used to create layers, colors, and moods. A beautiful interior can promote feelings of wellness by making one feel happy and alive.

Once clients enter the front door, the reception area to the left evokes the mountain environment. A spiky chandelier resembles mountain peaks, while large windows invite the picturesque scene inside. An Azul blue slab on the receptionist desk mimics the blues found within the spa.

The bathroom in the residence part of the spa features multiple textures of tile and wallpaper. The design is universal allowing a wheelchair to easily pass and pull up to the sink area. The colors are blues and grays to create a peaceful, calming atmosphere. Again, the idea is to promote healing with visuals!

What do you think of when you hear the word: spa? The mountains? A sunset? Colorado, perhaps?

These three things combine to create a location for a healing spa in Conifer, Colorado. The exterior and interior environments combine to create an overall holistic experience.

This is the focal point of the spa that greets a client once they enter through the front door. It is housed by a 15 foot wide glass wall. This area will provide clients with healing and relaxation from multiple sclerosis symptoms.

This is the owner's living, dining, and kitchen area. As you can see, the space is open which is great to make the rooms feel larger and is great for entertaining guests.

The main idea in designing this spa was to create a unique design that incorporates the mountain environment that lay just outside the doors. It's important to not be shut off from the exterior once inside. The outdoors is welcomed indoors in this nature-inspired healing spa!

A rainy day in Birmingham, England

Design Solution

To create a living space that explores the Equestrian style in England, furnishings were used along with a color palette of navy, muted greens, cream, and that quintessential bit of red so true in British culture. The color scheme hints at England’s regal history while creating a comfortable interior atmosphere. With a focus on practical and inviting furniture, leather furnishings reflect a typical English manor while storage trunks hint at a love of exploration and travel. To create contrast and mix masculine and feminine influences, a white sofa was selected along with dark leather chairs. Definitely not your traditional side tables, storage trunks add an element of surprise within the design. Using travel trunks with drawers allows multiple items to be stored, providing functionality and organization. The trunks are also reminiscent of travel luggage aboard an old English steam train traveling through the countryside. Multiple seating is arranged around the fireplace to provide a cozy spot during chilly English weather. A quiet seating arrangement to the side also provide the perfect nook for reading or crafting. Shelving flanking the fireplace is the perfect solution to display precious travel collectibles. Glass French doors frame the space allowing light to filter in and provides a beautiful backdrop to the quaint English countryside. Reclaimed beams provide a nod to the achievement in English architecture. Finally, the room is finished with the British flag, a personal stamp to England décor.

Surrounded by family and favorite things, the design of the living room has an element of fun and makes a big statement. Craftsmanship of antique travel trunks, warmth from the leather furnishings, and layers of fabrics all define the interior of this Birmingham, England home.

The final floor plan designed for the clients

More designs within the home include:

Built-Ins in Office with a Reclaimed Wood Wall

The artwork is from: Picture-Source of NY/ Paris/ & London Street Scenes.

Foyer Wall Elevation Design

The artwork is from Surya.

The Lighting Plan for the Main Living Area

The lighting includes recessed lighting and directional lights, along with a main chandelier:

Julian Chichester: Galaxy Chandelier

and two wall sconces:

Diamond Lighting: Holepunch 2 Light Wall Sconce In Gold Leaf

This fictional Birmingham, England home was fun to design for my Residential class. I love the Equestrian style and classic furniture pieces used. I look forward to designing in the real world upon graduation. Who knows: maybe I will design an Equestrian look for a real client one day!!!

Guest Bedroom/ Tween Bedroom

In designing the couple's daughters bedroom, which also doubles as a guest bedroom, the color palette was inspired by a fun, upbeat tween. Vibrant pops of red and blue were used throughout.

The jumping off design element for the room was a hand-painted piece of art from Surya called "Flower Flock".

Next, vibrant blue lamps from Wildwood Lamps were added.

A final rendered concept of the bedroom:

The goal is to create an interior that is warm and cozy, since the home is located in chilly, rainy England. Warms colors make the room feel upbeat and alive. The décor is perfect for a growing tween girl, yet relaxing enough for guests to slumber.

FYI: Yes, that is a sheep grazing right outside the window!! :)

Equestrian Master Bedroom in England

A master bedroom is the perfect spot for calming colors, like blue. Blue is a relaxing color with a pleasing aesthetic that appeals to most people. The color pairs well with silver as both are on the cool side of the color wheel. I used both blue and silver in my design for the master suite of a fictional home I'm designing for a class project.

Since blue and silver are cooler colors, warm wood tones pair well with these.

There are many, many, many shades of blue! The shade I'm using is:

Since this is an Equestrian themed home, the artwork and accessories are important to tie in the look. Here are a few of the pieces that I'm using:

The overall look for this master suite is a balanced look of masculine and feminine. The navy blues and grays hint at the masculine side, while the floral arrangement and fabrics hint at a feminine side. The look is a bit upscale, which is the trend for the Equestrian style. The goal for this design is to create a beautiful and calming space to relax in and unwind after a long day.

A part of the master bedroom design also includes the walk-in closets for my clients. I designed a walk-in closet for her and a walk-in closet for him. The walk-in closet for her has off-white wood and silver hardware. In contrast, the walk-in closet for him has walnut wood and silver hardware.

Holistic Spa Floor Plan

So, I'm designing a commercial spa specializing in multiple sclerosis in Colorado for a class project. Not only is this a class project, but it is also a design competition!! The floor plan of the spa needs to be barrier-free for wheelchair users, so all the corridors are five feet wide. The main focus or focal point from the entrance is the pool area which will provide comfort, relaxation, and relief to the clients. This area is large and also features a water fountain, planter, and seating. A window on one side allows a view into the pool area from the entrance. A glass wall on the other side allows clients in the exercise area to have a view into the pool.

Inspiration picture for the reception desk area!

The floor plan also includes a residential area for the owners of the spa to live in. The master bedroom is spacious with an open closet and adjacent master bath. The guest room on the other side of the residence allows guests their own sanctuary with a private half bath next door. The living, dining, and kitchen are all open to one another for easy entertaining.

Back in the spa, the open exercise size area is located between the two bathrooms for easy access by those working out. A rest area close by, with views of the nearby mountains, is the perfect nook to relax after exercising. This rest area also has a view into the pool.

The color palette for the spa has been updated to muted green, blue, mountain gray, and a hint of lilac.

The main goal in designing the layout of this spa is easy flow with cleverly placed focal points, like the pool area! Rest, Relaxation, and Rejuvenation come easy at Rocky Springs Med Spa!!!

Office Based on Personality

The Equestrian office that I'm designing for my British clients are based on my personality type. This was a fun, in-class project where we each took a questionnaire online to figure out our individual personalities. Then we had to design the office space based on that.

My personality is "ISFJ". This means Introvert, Sensing, Feeling, and Judging. I was considering designing the desk in the office as a peninsula with two chairs. Since my personality is "Introvert", I'm using a desk with a single chair instead placed in front of the window. This will allow the clients to have a relaxing view of the beautiful English countryside while they work.

My clients love to travel, so I included this set of travel-inspired pictures in the office. Each features a different place in the world, like Paris and New York.
