HOLISTIC SPA DESIGN
 
 
In designing a holistic, healing spa, the goal is to promote healing and feelings of wellness.  Interior elements hint at the exterior environment, while lots of textures throughout create a pleasing aesthetic.

For Rocky Springs Med Spa, the design invites the mountain environment in.  Lots of textures and tiles were used to create layers, colors, and moods.  A beautiful interior can promote feelings of wellness by making one feel happy and alive.


Once clients enter the front door, the reception area to the left evokes the mountain environment.  A spiky chandelier resembles mountain peaks, while large windows invite the picturesque scene inside.  An Azul blue slab on the receptionist desk mimics the blues found within the spa.
 
The bathroom in the residence part of the spa features multiple textures of tile and wallpaper.  The design is universal allowing a wheelchair to easily pass and pull up to the sink area.  The colors are blues and grays to create a peaceful, calming atmosphere.  Again, the idea is to promote healing with visuals!

What do you think of when you hear the word: spa?  The mountains?  A sunset?  Colorado, perhaps?
These three things combine to create a location for a healing spa in Conifer, Colorado.  The exterior and interior environments combine to create an overall holistic experience.
 
This is the focal point of the spa that greets a client once they enter through the front door.  It is housed by a 15 foot wide glass wall.  This area will provide clients with healing and relaxation from multiple sclerosis symptoms.
 
This is the owner's living, dining, and kitchen area.  As you can see, the space is open which is great to make the rooms feel larger and is great for entertaining guests.

The main idea in designing this spa was to create a unique design that incorporates the mountain environment that lay just outside the doors.  It's important to not be shut off from the exterior once inside.  The outdoors is welcomed indoors in this nature-inspired healing spa!

A rainy day in Birmingham, England
 
 
Design Solution

To create a living space that explores the Equestrian style in England, furnishings were used along with a color palette of navy, muted greens, cream, and that quintessential bit of red so true in British culture.  The color scheme hints at England’s regal history while creating a comfortable interior atmosphere.  With a focus on practical and inviting furniture, leather furnishings reflect a typical English manor while storage trunks hint at a love of exploration and travel.  To create contrast and mix masculine and feminine influences, a white sofa was selected along with dark leather chairs.  Definitely not your traditional side tables, storage trunks add an element of surprise within the design.  Using travel trunks with drawers allows multiple items to be stored, providing functionality and organization.  The trunks are also reminiscent of travel luggage aboard an old English steam train traveling through the countryside.  Multiple seating is arranged around the fireplace to provide a cozy spot during chilly English weather.  A quiet seating arrangement to the side also provide the perfect nook for reading or crafting.  Shelving flanking the fireplace is the perfect solution to display precious travel collectibles.  Glass French doors frame the space allowing light to filter in and provides a beautiful backdrop to the quaint English countryside.  Reclaimed beams provide a nod to the achievement in English architecture.  Finally, the room is finished with the British flag, a personal stamp to England décor.

Surrounded by family and favorite things, the design of the living room has an element of fun and makes a big statement.  Craftsmanship of antique travel trunks, warmth from the leather furnishings, and layers of fabrics all define the interior of this Birmingham, England home.

This fictional Birmingham, England home was fun to design for my Residential class.  I love the Equestrian style and classic furniture pieces used.  I look forward to designing in the real world upon graduation.  Who knows: maybe I will design an Equestrian look for a real client one day!!!
 


Guest Bedroom/ Tween Bedroom

In designing the couple's daughters bedroom, which also doubles as a guest bedroom, the color palette was inspired by a fun, upbeat tween.  Vibrant pops of red and blue were used throughout.
The jumping off design element for the room was a hand-painted piece of art from Surya called "Flower Flock".

 
 
Next, vibrant blue lamps from Wildwood Lamps were added.

The goal is to create an interior that is warm and cozy, since the home is located in chilly, rainy England.  Warms colors make the room feel upbeat and alive.  The décor is perfect for a growing tween girl, yet relaxing enough for guests to slumber. 

FYI: Yes, that is a sheep grazing right outside the window!! :)
